Abstract
The article takes up one of the most debatable questions of the modern literature analyzing national processes in West European countries. From the author’s point of view, one may single out three «pure types» of nation («ideal-type nations»): the economic, the political, and the cultural ones, represented by the British, the French, and the German nations respectively. Making use of wide historical material, the author attempts to carry out reconstruction of the process of their formation for the purpose of finding out both common and specific elements, to demonstrate originality of national communities of Europe.
