Abstract

The 20th century witnessed incredible changes, including those manifested so dramatically on the European continent. The names, numbers and geopolitical configurations of the nations of the continent have been in an almost constant state of flux - foreshadowing and following the two World Wars fought on their territories. As is, in particular, stressed in the article, the general political objectives in the framework of the EU Maritime Policy, inasmuch as they are to be considered on all administrative levels (regional, national, European and global), should be clearly defined for the implementation of any activity which has an influence on the sea and/or ocean environment. To ensure a balanced development, an integrated maritime policy should be created.
